Zack Copeland

Zack Copeland brings extensive wilderness, wildlife management, and backcountry operational experience to BUSAR. Raised in East Tennessee, Copeland developed a strong work ethic and practical problem-solving mindset early in life, learning the value of responsibility, adaptability, and service through years of hands-on outdoor work and field experience.

A former Wildlife Ranger with extensive experience operating in remote terrain, Copeland specializes in tracking, wilderness survival, hunting, medical support, communications, and backcountry field operations. His operational background includes large mammal trapping, wilderness travel, and fieldwork throughout remote regions of North America, where he developed strong terrain awareness and advanced tracking capability in difficult environments.

In addition to his operational role within BUSAR, Copeland serves as Chair of the BUSAR Board and is known throughout the organization for his versatility, reliability, and team-first mindset. Whether supporting search operations, managing field logistics, assisting with medical care, or supporting extended backcountry missions, he is respected for adapting quickly and helping solve problems in demanding environments.

Known for his quiet leadership style and commitment to service, Copeland emphasizes integrity, preparedness, and supporting the team above personal recognition. His broad field experience, operational adaptability, and practical wilderness skills continue to strengthen BUSAR’s backcountry rescue and mission support capabilities.
