Ben Landkammer
Ben brings more than 30 years of backcountry and wilderness experience to BUSAR. Raised in the Rocky Mountains of western Montana, Landkammer developed extensive experience in hunting, fishing, mountain travel, bushcraft, and wilderness navigation from an early age. A formative experience after becoming lost while hunting as a teenager helped shape his disciplined approach to terrain awareness, planning, and backcountry travel.
Landkammer specializes in land navigation, wilderness survival, bushcraft, and K-9 operations. As BUSAR’s K-9 handler, he works alongside his multipurpose K-9 partner, Kato, providing critical tracking and search capability during complex wilderness operations where time, terrain, and environmental conditions create additional challenges for search teams.
In addition to his operational role with BUSAR, Landkammer is a professional K-9 trainer and the owner of Calibrated K9, where he trains working dogs and handlers in obedience, behavior, and operational performance. His background in canine behavior and field operations provides valuable expertise during tracking and search missions in remote terrain.
Known for his analytical mindset, calm demeanor, and strategic approach in the field, Landkammer emphasizes teamwork, continual learning, and disciplined decision-making. His extensive wilderness experience and K-9 operational capability continue to strengthen BUSAR’s backcountry search and rescue mission readiness.
