Andrew Howe

Andrew Howe brings extensive backcountry endurance and wilderness travel experience to BUSAR. Raised in the Great Smoky Mountains and shaped by years in Scouting, Howe developed a strong foundation in preparedness, teamwork, and wilderness self-reliance early in life, ultimately earning the rank of Eagle Scout.

A dedicated ground operator, Howe specializes in off-trail travel, litter operations, mountain bike operations, and field repair in demanding terrain. With more than 15 years of competitive endurance mountain biking experience throughout the Appalachian Mountains, he has completed numerous 100-mile and multi-day events requiring exceptional physical endurance, navigation, and resilience in austere environments.

In addition to his operational role with BUSAR, Howe works as a civil and environmental engineer focused on water quality and environmental systems in East Tennessee. His professional background reinforces the same disciplined problem-solving and long-range planning that he brings into field operations and rescue environments.

Known for his quiet work ethic, physical endurance, and team-first mentality, Howe is respected for maintaining steady performance in difficult terrain and physically demanding operations. His commitment to preparation, resilience, and operational reliability continues to strengthen BUSAR’s backcountry rescue and field support capabilities.
