Mark Silkwood

Mark brings extensive military, medical, and technical rescue experience to BUSAR. Raised in Houston, Texas, Silkwood developed the discipline, adaptability, and composure that would later define his operational leadership through years of service in the U.S. Army Special Forces.

A combat-tested Green Beret Medic, Silkwood spent more than a decade serving in remote and high-risk environments throughout Central and South America, Africa, and Afghanistan. His operational background includes austere medicine, rope rescue, survival training, land navigation, technical rescue systems, and leadership in complex environments where preparation and sound judgment are critical to mission success.

In addition to his military service, Silkwood currently works as a Combat Search and Rescue Specialist supporting Department of Defense operations in remote regions around the world. He has completed numerous survival schools and technical rescue programs, bringing extensive field knowledge and instructional experience into BUSAR’s training and operational readiness programs. As a training officer and survival specialist, he emphasizes disciplined preparation, adaptability, and maintaining operational capability in challenging conditions.

Known throughout the team for his calm leadership style, empathy under pressure, and steady decision-making, Silkwood is respected for grounding difficult situations with experience, composure, and professionalism. His commitment to service, preparation, and mission-focused leadership continues to strengthen BUSAR’s medical and backcountry rescue capabilities.
