Jonathan Dee M.D.
Jonathan Dee, M.D., brings extensive medical, technical rescue, and wilderness operations experience to BUSAR. Raised between Zimbabwe and Tennessee, Dee developed a strong work ethic, resilience, and commitment to service early in life through family responsibility, outdoor exploration, and medical training.
A longtime physician serving East Tennessee since 2007, Dee currently serves as the Local Emergency Medical Advisor for Great Smoky Mountains National Park and as a Technical Rescue Instructor for BUSAR. His operational background includes technical rescue systems, wilderness medicine, off-trail travel, caving, land navigation, search team leadership, and medical support in austere environments.
In addition to his medical practice, Dee has a longstanding history of community service and outdoor leadership, combining his professional medical background with extensive backcountry experience throughout the Southern Appalachians. An avid outdoorsman, cyclist, and expedition traveler, he is known for maintaining exceptional physical preparedness and continually training to improve operational capability in the field.
Known throughout the team for his relentless work ethic, calm leadership style, and commitment to mission readiness, Dee emphasizes preparation, compassion, and perseverance in both medicine and rescue operations. His combination of medical expertise, technical rescue instruction, and operational experience continues to strengthen BUSAR’s field response and wilderness rescue capabilities.
